The Pasadena Croquet Association is the official croquet organization of Pasadena, California. It was founded in 2006 by Matt and Tracy Heverly and is a powerhouse of Southern California croquet talent. The origins of the association date back to 1996 when a simple croquet tournament was held in LaVerne California on the 5th of July. The original tournament was simply a means to gather some friends, have a barbeque, and have fun. Every year since that original tournament (except 2004), a tournament has been held on the 5th of July (ish) to gather friends together and celebrate the game that is croquet. Each year we get new people to come out, play croquet for the first time, and have fun. We also have serious competitors that return year after year. The 5th of July tournament has evolved to be six rounds of traditional "Backyard Croquet". Each round starts with a trivia competition to determine the order of play. The winner of each round advances to a final championship round. The tournament champion receives a communal prize to which everyone that participates contributes (usually a big basket of beer). As the years go by the 5th of July tournament continues to grow. We have had international competitors (Irish, French, Puerto Rican) and hope to keep the tournament growing. The competition is fierce, the course is challenging, but the true purpose of the tournament is still to gather with friends on a warm summer day. |
